ASD - Autism Spectrum Disorder

WHAT IS ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)?

Autism is a Neurodevelopmental Disorder that presents a wide range of manifestations and is characterized by difficulties in social interaction and communication, behavior, interests , and activities.

The diagnosis of ASD is typically made between childhood and school age through psychological assessment using developmental history and analysis of clinically relevant behaviors in the child's life contexts. The severity of symptoms varies and depends on the degree of functionality, the need for support, and the ability to participate. Thus, it varies from individual to individual, and its expression also changes throughout life.

Additionally, comorbid conditions such as Intellectual Disability, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Sensory Integration Disorder, and Anxiety and Sleep Disorders are present.

HOW CAN WE INTERVENE IN ASD?

At NeuroImprove Clinic, intervention in ASD is carried out through Psychology and Neurofeedback sessions. After an evaluation with Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG), which objectively indicates whether the child has neurological problems or not, a survey is conducted on the behaviors and areas in which the child shows difficulties.

The assessment through this examination will allow us to find the ideal activity level in each region of the brain, which will be promoted through Neurofeedback training as the child will learn to restore balance to their brain. This means they will facilitate a more active and focused state while performing a task, and a more relaxed state while resting or sleeping.

In turn, Psychology sessions will allow to promote all the child’s needs identified, intervening with the child, the parents and other significant elements in order to address strategies to deal with difficulties, facilitate development, and stimulate deficient areas.
